Thank God, I am not the only person reading this who thinks that Dane Cook is funny! I completely agree that not everyone will like his style. I can't imagine my parents, for instance, laughing as much as me. But, that's fine. I don't always enjoy the comedians they watch either. While people may argue that Dane Cook is "not funny," I would have to say -- emphatically -- that they are wrong. Some people may not find him funny, but I don't know of a single comedian who appeals to everyone. Personally... I hate Andy Kaufman's brand of comedy. That doesn't mean he isn't funny, though. It just means that I won't be buying any of his stuff anytime soon.

To be honest I thought I was the only person who wasn't fond of Cook. I'm in college and everyone here is going ape shit for this kid. I don't see his appeal and if anything I would like to stay as far away from his "comedy" as possible. Those two articles sum up my feelings towards him better then I could ever explain. Thanks for the post.

It's kinda funny that both articles nit-pick at Dane's extensive fanbase and the fact that he's not "like" a variety of other comedians. And then they wonder why people love him so much. They put him down for what? Not rehashing what other comedians have been rehashing for years? So what if he doesn't make observations like Jerry Seinfeld or doesn't discuss current events like Jon Stewart?

Dan Cook is successful because he is upbeat, but he is funny. You may disagree, but over a million people seem to think he is.

And it's absolutely true that in Dane's world there are no political problems, no turmoil, no war. Dane has made his world the place people go to get away from it. The world is depressing, and Dane offers a little refuge, if only for a 60-minute CD or a 90-minute special.

Dane is funny because, yeah, we have been there. We do know what he's talking about. He appeals to this generation because he's talking about things they've gone through, like working at a fast food restaurant, girls who stick with assholes, getting a glimpse of your father naked, playing monopoly, etc. He doesn't make cracks at politicians--so what? We're tired of comedians talking about politics. That's for other comedians, not Dane.

His impressions are bad, but they're amusing.

The articles bash his vast internet fanbase, which I thought was especially hypocritical coming from Salon.com. He's made himself accessible to his fans, and guess what? Turns out fans like that. He doesn't shy away from crowds after his show, he embraces them. He feels bad when he doesn't get to reply to emails from fans.

Dane loves his fans, and his fans love him.

You (and them) may not get the joke, but we're still laughing our asses off.

I saw him on the tonight show for 5 minutes and Cook did a joke about taking his dog on airplanes. He really quickly mentioned the breed "He's a min-pin" but didn't explain what the f@#k it was, but I figured from the joke that it's a small dog. Turns out it's a "miniature doberman pinscher." Really? The biggest unfunny frat-boy dick in the world is in competition with Paris Hilton for the tiniest pet?

PS nice job on the Zach Braff thing.

man, those two articles were great. They summed up exactly my reasons for hating Carlos Mencia so much. I hope this new kind of comic doesn't become a new fad.
