Top Films of 2008

In order:

Special Grand Jury Prize for Most Depressing Film To Watch While Unemployed:

Not a great year for film. I saw less movies this year than any I can recall.

*Special note to Charlie Kaufman: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me — you can’t get fooled again.

man, synecdoche was ridiculous. As soon as I walked out of the theatre any thoughts I had about the film entirely left my head, and I haven’t so much as considered it but twice since I saw it. rubbish.

I agree. I could have easily walked out on it, and in fact during a bathroom break seriously considered doing just that. As it was, the film had this horribly sustained tone of depression that was way too much to handle.

i just saw happy-go-lucky yesterday. i didn’t want to see it at all. and that was stupid of me. no movie has made me happier. except maybe the room. i cannot believe how bloody good happy-go-lucky is. and sally hawkins. ugh.

My only complaint was the scene with the homeless man lasted way too long. But yeah, Sally Hawkins! I really hope she at least gets nominated, as that performance was totally amazing.

I was just looking over your list and realized I really need to see Role Models.
